Siouxland’s #1 fun, active, educational, and affordable program for girls.

Summer STEM class

ABOUT THE SUMMER PROGRAM

What

A 9-week, full-day, active, educational, safe, and fun-filled summer program designed and exclusively for girls ages 5-18.

When

June 1 – July 3 and July 12 – August 7
(off the week of July 6-10)
Monday thru Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Where

The program primarily takes place at Girls Inc.’s state-of-the-art facility at 500 Main Street in Sioux City.  With six classrooms, a computer lab, STEM lab, library, full-size gym, arts and crafts center, cafeteria, podcast room, and more, it offers everything a program could need.

Programs and Activities

Girls Inc. provides the highest quality, most intentional and most affordable summer program in the region.  It is a fun-filled, active, educational summer program for girls entering grades K thru 12..

  • Pro-girl environment
  • Focus on math, reading, and science
  • Girls Inc. evidence-based curriculum
  • Active, fun days with a focus on healthy lifestyles
  • Arts, crafts, music, gardening and more
  • Healthy and delicious breakfast, lunch and snack provided each day
  • Field trips, guest speakers and presenters throughout the summer
  • Water Fun day each week (beginning week 2)
  • Toolbox program for girls ages 12 and up

Meals

Breakfast is offered every morning from 8-9 AM.
A nutritious lunch and afternoon snack is served every day for all girls.
We attempt to accommodate special dietary needs (such as allergies) whenever possible.

Staffing

Each class is led by two trained and caring staff members – a lead instructor and an assistant.  In addition, the summer staff includes tutoring, STEM, and behavioral support, all assisted by the Program Director, Youth Development Director, Operations Director and administrative staff.

Fees

Fees include everything – meals, snacks, activities, field trips, swimming, etc.
Activity Fee (one-time per girl due at registration):  $90 per girl.
Weekly Fees: $60/$85/ or $125 per week, per child (based on household income and size).  A 20% discount is provided for multiple girls from the same household.  Fees are due each week, one week in advance.  Additional scholarship may be available based on need.

Attendance Requirements

Because we, our funders, and our donors want every girl to get the most out of the program and because every day is jam packed, we do have basic attendance requirements:

  • Girls must be dropped off by 9 AM each day
  • Girls must not be picked up prior to 4 PM each day
  • Girls must not miss more than 20% of the program

If possible, families are encouraged to take advantage of the week off (July 6-10) to plan trips and other activities that would normally cause girls to miss.

Advocacy & Education

Girls Inc. works with and for girls to advocate for policies to overcome the social and systemic barriers that threaten their ability to succeed.

Together, we advocate especially for the needs of girls from low-income communities and those who may face discrimination because of their gender, race, religion, ethnicity, immigration status, disability, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation and gender identity.
